Benefits of SCUBA diving
Diving is not only entertaining and rewarding, but the benefits of SCUBA diving are manifold. In addition to being an activity that surprises us every dive with its seductive scenery and wonderful fauna, it has many advantages for physical and mental health.
After knowing what the benefits are you will surely want to learn to dive!
Main benefits of SCUBA diving
The list would be huge if I tried to count all the benefits of SCUBA diving, so I have tried to summarize it in 7 concepts:
1. Safe and easy
Diving is sometimes believed to be a dangerous sport, however due to the protocols and standards established for this practice there are wide margins of safety, leaving SCUBA diving as one of the most controlled risk sports. To start you just need to know how to swim and answer a medical form that rules out conditions that may be a problem when diving.
2. Good for the body
Skin and bones. Water is life, it is a vital element for the planet and it has therapeutic effects. Contact with salt water and exposure to sunlight help heal the skin and bones.
Respiratory and cardiovascular system. Breathing slowly and deeply under water, in a conscious way as we learn when diving, also impacts how we breathe in our daily lives, improving oxygenation and lung capacity. This also means moderate exercise for the heart, reducing heart rate and blood pressure, and improving circulation. Deep breathing also helps to improve metabolism, eliminate toxins, absorb fat through activation of intestinal lymph nodes, and also stimulates the body’s immune system.
Musculature, strength and flexibility. The water offers some resistance that make all our muscles work while exercising our psychomotor skills such as balance, coordination and orientation. We strengthen our muscles and gain flexibility while having fun.
3. Good for the mind
Performing a new activity that proposes a challenge, surmount the fears you may have, certainly increases your confidence and self-esteem. Diving makes you feel stronger, because it means overcoming yourself little by little, in a continuous learning. Added to this, only contact with water produces a deep sense of well-being. Underwater, the diver comes into direct contact with the environment and isolates himself from distractions, hears almost only the sound of his own breathing, which improves the ability to concentrate. It is also considered an exercise that also contributes to relieve hyperactivity disorders and control anxiety levels.
Finally, have you ever dreamed of flying? Well, here is the solution!
Thanks to the anti-gravity we experience when we immerse ourselves in a 3D environment, and the vastness of the sea, a unique feeling of freedom is generated, something like flying or floating on the moon, which contributes to relax the senses, promoting calm and inner peace.
4. Exercise without suffering
Bingo! We found it! Who wouldn’t like to stay in good physical condition without having to make great efforts? Diving maintains and improves fitness levels in several ways. When we enter the water our body needs to burn calories to maintain body heat, especially if the water is cold. The metabolism is accelerated as our body works to remove the accumulated nitrogen in our systems by breathing compressed air, working up to 18 hours after a dive. Another contributing factor is the movement made when entering and leaving the water, swimming on the surface or transporting equipment, with which we also lose calories. Practicing diving, and eating moderately, you can maintain a good figure. This activity invites to a integral well-being because divers must take care of their physical condition and have a healthy life.
5. Direct contact with nature
Diving certainly encourages care and respect for nature, values immensely important even more today that the planet needs so much from us to heal. Many times our daily routines absorb us and we are disconnected from the world. We forget how extensive life is and how huge is our planet, that 70% of it is water and we barely know anything about the other 30%. If we dive, we are fortunate to be in constant interaction with marine life, we are thrilled to see ourselves surrounded by the majestic underwater biodiversity and seeing the animals in freedom we are convinced that this should be the only way to know them, in its natural state. We become sensitive to issues such as the environment, conservation and ecology, becoming part of the solution, voluntarily taking responsibility for taking care of our home.
6. Positively impact to your social life
When we practice scuba diving we attend schools and dive clubs where we make friends and feel like members of a global community. This activity encourages fellowship and social integration. In addition, underwater we communicate using signs, a new and challenging form of expression, promoting teamwork and reinforcing bonds of friendship. We share experiences, move forward together and generate beautiful collective memories. Highly recommended to enjoy with friends, family, couple and even alone because in the world of diving there are thousands of communities that will be happy to welcome you. After-dive camaraderie activities are common, which certainly give us the opportunity to generate new and strengthened interpersonal relationships.
7. Travelling to new places
Diving activities are carried out around the world, therefore diving is linked to travel, holidays and adventures, most of the time in warm climates and paradise places, all of which is positive for your body, mind and soul. Relax and reduce stress by traveling and diving!…You won’t regret it...
